Not sure if I am on the right track with this but I have found:
Matthew Gash b abt 1849 Bongate, Westmorland living at Low Field, Bongate, Westmorland with:-
Joseph Gash, 36, Farmer occupying 48 acres (it looks he was born at Hesket in the Forest, Cumberland)
Jane Gash, 31, (she was also born at Hesket in the Forest, Cumberland)
John Gash, 9, scholar, born at Bongate
Joseph Gash, 7, scholar, born at Bongate
Elizabeth Gash, 4, born at Bongate
Wm Salkeld, 17, shown as son, born at Kirkby Stephen
In 1861 - what appears to be the same family appear to living at Mickleton, Yorkshire - with the children's birth place shown at Appleby (it looks like the parents on this census is showing their birth place as Hasket, Cumberland. John Gash, 20, is shown as Farmers Son - I can't exactly see what his father is doing but is looks at though it shows something like Public House Farm Manager?
In 1871 - what appears to be the same family appear to be living at Bay Horse Inn, Bishop Auckland, Durham. Joseph now shown as Labourer & Innkeeper. John is a coal miner, widow. Matthew is a labourer, unmarried. (Children's birthplace again has reverted to Bongate, with the parents birthplace shown as High Hesket).
Was not sure if you had the 1861 & 1871 details if you haven't and you think this is the correct family I can give you details of the siblings associated with those years.
