Bertrand Evelyn LUFFMAN
« on: Monday 20 June 11 16:52 BST (UK) »
Bertrand was born in India in 1878. After service in the 2nd Boer war he settled in Australia and qualified as an accountant. He re-enlisted for service in August 1914, and gave his mother as next of kin address Moradabad O&R Railway India. He changed units and re enlisted on 8th March 1915 this time giving his next of kin as his wife address56 Cook Road, Centenial Park Sydney. He was killed at Gallipoli. My question is are there any known children of Bertram and his wife please?

As the births only go to 1910 online i can not help with this.

Looks as though Elizabeth might have remarried.

The name which appears on both the NSW bdm website and the digitised WW1 service file on http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx  is Bertrand Evelyn LUFFMAN

This photo may be of ELIZABETH (or not)

She appears to be of a Tasmanian family, according to the thoughts of the tree's author.

Hi Redroger,

Just a brief note to say that Bertram's 1914 enlistment was with the AN&MEF (Australian Navy & Military Expedition Force) for service in New Guinea.  The unit was seperate from the AIF and raised between August 10th & 18th 1914 to occupy the German Colonies in the South Pacific including NewGuinea and take the German Wireless Stations.

The force was hurridly put together with a battalion (1000) of soldiers from Sydney, mainly Militia, 500 Naval Reservists and ex Sailors plus 500 soldiers from the North Queensland Kennedy Regiment, they were rushed off quickly to New Guinea.

Bertram was probably in the Militia in Sydney at the time he joined the AN&MEF even though it's not mentioned on his papers.  He joined the AN&MEF as a private and within a short period was a sergeant, once his AN&MEF time was up he joined the AIF in 1915.

Regards
Gerry

I would like to point out again that the name that appears on the NSW marriage index and Service Records is Bertrand not Bertram.
