Peter is my ggg/gfather and came out to Australia in 1841/42.

Hello Mike!  I have a few Purves' in my tree and they are also from Preston and Bunkle Parish, but just a generation or so earlier.  I feel confident will have a connection.  The closest to your time frame is Janet Purves married Christopher Sligh on 13 Oct 1732 in Bunkle and Preston.     Let me know if you can get a link to my Janet!!!   Pat

also found this on ancestry board..

1791 Christiana Purves born at Marygold within the Parish of Bunkle and Preston.
Christiana married William Lewis in Berwick, 1817 and then moved to Newcastle on Tyne.  By the 1841 census  she's married to a John Muckle.

William and Christiana are my great(x3)-grandparents.  I did a bit of research on the Purves' a while back - one of Liddle Purves' grandchildren was James Liddell Purves, a QC and MP over in Australia in the late 19th century.
