Any connection to the Thomas Barter you posted looking for earlier?

Aubrey was born after the latest available census (1911) but his birth certificate should list names of both parents (unless illegitimate) and then you could perhaps get parents' marriage, find them in 1911 census, etc.

Actually had a quick look at FreeBMD and your estimate of birthyear may be incorrect:
Birth: Aubrey C Barter, mother's maiden name James, July/Sept.1916 Cardiff district, volume 11a page 780
One the same page is another Barter/James birth- perhaps a twin? (won't post in case he's still alive). Also 2 girls 1911 and 1913 and another boy 1920 (birth certificates would be needed to confirm these children all belong to the same family)

thanks,but i got all that info bmd,but no other info on him,he was my grandfather
and i dont even no what he looks like,he left my nan and father in the fifties,
and he has never been spoken of in all my 47 years,
