Hi Karen,

I can't immediately find George in Horsham but Elizabeth appears in Nuthurst.

Unfortunately there are two though!

Elizabeth Dinnage d of Joseph (labourer) and Milly, of Mannings Heath, baptised 20 Nov 1825

Elizabeth Dinnage d of James (labourer) and Elizabeth, baptised 17 Sep 1826

I'll have a look to see if either of them died soon after.

ADDED: In 1836 Elizabeth Dinnage aged 12 is buried, which could be the first of the above two?

On the 1861 census there is an Ann White living with George and his family.  I suspect that is his mother.  (Ann White was buried aged 86, on 1Mar 1863 at St Mary's Horsham.)  She is said to have been born in Hambledon, Surrey.

That made sense to me as I used to live nearby but I did a quick search and there is also one in Hampshire just over the border from Sussex.  Maybe the enumerator also knew the two Hambledons and decided to put the Surrey one instead of Hampshire!

If George was born in Hampshire, then it would explain why I can't find him on the Sussex baptism index.  ;D

Hi,

Sorry I got side tracked!

I agree that it is definitely the Gaston / Gasson marriage that is the one you shuold be interested in.  As for your question about Caroline. :o  I will have a look and see if I can get anywhere with it!
