Freeman Marston

My 2nd great grandfather Freeman Marston was born 13 September 1841 to Alfred Abraham Marston and Ann Maria Marston (nee Carr) in Brooke, Norfolk.

I have him listed in the 1851, 1861 and 1871 census as living in Brooke, and then in 1881 living in Paddington, London.

He married Hannah Spurgeon on 13 September 1866 in Brooke, they had 5 children from 1867 up until 1873.

I have nothing on him from 1881. He just seems to of disappeared!

Any ideas?

Hi Bev hannah is a widow in the 1891 census in brooke.

Well here's a funny thing.

Hannah Marston appears on the 1901 census, still in Brooke - ref RG13 1858 Folio 102 Page 7

But she now indicates she's married, rather than widowed.

Pretty sure it must be the right one - she's living with a Jane Marston and a William Spurgeon.

Also noticed on the Family Search website, a Hannah Marston baptised by Freeman Marston and Hannah, at Brooke on the 26 November 1881, and then a death of a 14 year old Hannah Marston at Brooke on 3 December 1881.  Checking on Freereg, it seems this Hannah was born 7 June 1867.

I hadn't noticed this before!

In the 1881 Census, he is listed as 'Free Marston' and is an Engineer. Still cannot find a death for him though

Just found out that he served with the Norfolk Constabulary from 2nd April 1864 to 6th August 1864.

Still can't find his death anywhere

In 1891, Hannah is listed as a widow. In 1901, she is listed as married, then again in 1911 she is listed as a widow.
