Orford - BRADY Baptism 1750s
« on: Sunday 25 September 11 23:02 BST (UK) »
Hi I am trying to find the origns of Sarah Brady/Grimwood, who was buried in Orford in 1792 aged 36. She had married her husband Thomas Grimwood in Orford in 1781. His family were from Easton and so I assume she was from Orford.

There are many burials of the Brady family on the NBI in Orford, but no baptisms. I assume these have therefore not been transcribed there. However it would seem the Brady name goes back quite a way in Orford.

So if anyone has access to Orford baptisms I would be most grateful if you could have a look for a Sarah Brady born c1755-1756.

Many thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon

I found a baptism in the Orford parish register for Sarah Brady but am now wondering if this is your Sarah because the dates don't fit.

Sarah d/o Thomas and Bathsheba Brady baptised 15th Jan 1745/6 (the year started in April 1746)

Some siblings:
Another Sarah baptised 24th May 1743
Christian (d/o) baptised 30th Sept 1741
Charles 29th Jan 1737/8

Some children of Charles and Christian Brady:

John 29th Aug 1736
Mary (d/o of Charles and Xtian) 11th July 1731

I wonder whether one of these two couples had a Sarah baptised ~1755.

Sorry not to have given you a definite answer  ???

Anne

Hi Ann,

Thanks so much for looking at this one for me too.

I have seen that a Sarah Brady married in 1770 in Orford, so I assume this is the one you have found.

Also 'my' Sarah Brady/Grimwood had a child in 1791 and it would be pushing it, I think, for her to have been born in 1745/6.

As the Brady family go back quite far I would assume she was from this branch, but was perhaps simply born out the area and then returned with her family.

The digging continues. Thanks very much again for looking.

Jon
