Cando, the Wills sounds really promising as Mt Richmond is where Ann and Joseph were living at the time.

As for their marriage, yes, that is exactly the one that I had located also but have not confirmed parents on either side as yet.

He is proving quite elusive in his death!  Prahran!  Maybe he was on a road trip!!

There is no death for a Joseph MARSHALL in 1891 so wonder if the death registration did not reach the Registry or perhaps wasn't registered at all.

I think you only hope now is contacting the cemetery trust to see if he is buried at Narrawong.

I will also have another look at the Joseph MARSHALL deaths....but would think the index on PROV to be accurate...but then again ;D

The will for Joseph Marshall Mt Richmond is indeed the man!
The will mentions his wife ANN and that he died 16/9/1889 in
ST KILDA (which is next to Prahran)

Ah good...getting somewhere at last.  Unfortunately I am unable to download wills from PROV and have no idea why >:(

Can't see Joseph on the 1841...will keep searching.

1851 Census
Living at Old Club Houses, Yeadon, Yorkshire
MARSHALL Joseph Head Married  24 years  Weaver Woollen  Born Yeadon, Yorkshire
MARSHALL Ann  Wife ?29 years  Cloth burler  Born Yeadon Yorkshire
MARSHALL Mary  Dau  1 year  Born Yeadon, Yorkshire
MARSHALL Sarah Day  1 year  Born Yeadon, Yorkshire

I have found a baptism for a Joseph MARSHALL 1st April 1827 with mother Mary MARSHALL at Parish of Rawdon, St Peter.    I am not at all experienced researching in Yorkshire however the other baptism records have Yeadon as place of abode.

His marriage cert would give you the name of his father.

1841 Census  HO107/1313/8
Living at Yeadon, Yorkshire
MARSHALL Thomas  60  Clothier  Born county
MARSHALL Grace  60  Clothier  Born county
MARSHALL Eliza  15   Born county
MARSHALL Joseph  15  Born county

I would think the marriage cert is necessary to validate his father's name.

Cheers
Cando

Dear Cando, yes, yes, yes that is them!

That is brilliant too that you have found a baptism - unfortunately I do not have a marriage certificate - need to apply overseas to England for that to happen and that much I have not entered into yet.

Having said that, your latest information looks like Grandparents!

Dear Sue,
Oh my gosh!  Looks like we have a fresh mystery on our hands!
They have died within six months of each other and no, I've never heard of the name in any of the research that I've been doing.
Fantastic find though - he obviously didn't return home to the family for burial in the south west of Victoria but stayed on for eternity in Melbourne!
