Alexander STEWART/Letterkenny
« on: Monday 12 September 11 18:29 BST (UK) »
I am trying to establish/confirm a birth place & parents for an Alexander Edwin Stewart.

20/02/1843 in Letterkenny, Co Donegal, Ireland.

Death as 05/03/1900 in Watson St, Charleville, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

I have his parents as Alexander STEWART & Christina NORRIS.

Also, can anyone help me find when he left for Australia.

Regards,

I have now found Samuel STEWART a possible brother for Alexander Edwin Stewart.20/02/1843 in Letterkenny, Co Donegal, Ireland.

Samuel STEWART married an Alice SUTHERLAND in 1868, Australia and states he was formally from Letterkenny, too. No DOB for Samuel.

Can anyone please help with their birth details and who were their parents.

You've already said that Alexander's parents are Alexander STEWART & Christina NORRIS.

To find Irish ancestors for such an early period you need to see if church records exist.
Have a look at Introduction to Irish Records and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Yes, I did say Alexander's parents were  Alexander STEWART & Christina NORRIS. Don't know where this information came from. That's why I would have liked confirmation on this and their birth dates.

On Alexander's death details there are no parents recorded. Samuel's death details, just give his father as Alexander.

Thank you.

Griffiths Valuation has 2 Alexander Stewart entries in 1858 for the parish of Conwal (which includes Letterkenny). One lived in the townland of Conwal, and the other in the townland of Carnamogagh.

www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml

I can't see a will listed for either.

Elwyn,

Where would I find immigration Passenger lists for Alexander E. STEWART about 1866. Possibily his brother Samuel, went around the same time. Alexander married in 1869, the year after Samuel.

I am not sure what the best sites are for passengers list to Australia c 1866.  Perhaps others on this site can suggest where to look for any records?
