Jukes - Completed
« on: Thursday 20 October 11 12:38 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I am trying to find the following family who I am struggling to find on the 1851 census.

James Jukes (born about 1800) Japanner
Mary Jukes (Born about 1800) possibly born Scotland

I have got them on the 1841 census living in Sheepcote Street, Ladywood and also I have James in a directory for 1852 living on Sheepcote Lane, Ladywood.

The reason I am trying to find them is I have nothing else about them apart from this and th 41 shows Mary I think being born in Scotland and I was hoping to find out more.....
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi anniejukes

Couldn't find your Jukes family in 1851 ::)

Did come across this although the ages do not meet your criteria ............ a maybe?

1851 HO107 2051 286 15 - Civil Parish Birmingham - Address 14 Tindal St

James Jukes Head mar 31 Birmingham - Japanner
Mary Ann wife 30 Birmingham
Sarah Ann daugh 8 Bham
Clara Jane daugh 3 Bham
James son 1 Bham

Or maybe this will help  -  Sheepcote Lane 1851 HO107 2051 404 11- Couldn't see your "Jukes" but maybe you might.

All the best

Z :)

Hi annie
like Z   I`ve   drawn a blank on finding James or Mary Ann Jukes  on 1851 Census
However found Deaths for
James Jukes  July/Aug/Sept 1843  Birmingham
Mary Ann Jukes  Oct/Nov/Dec 1849  Birmingham.
Problem is unlike some of death notices it  doesn`t give their ages.
No way to check without original certs but would explain WHY
There is no trace after the 1841 Census suppose could try and find  some of the children!!

Hi thanks both for your messages.
I am thinking now that maybe the directory info of 1852 is just a coincidence or another member of the family?

Thanks again!

Annie,

I haven't found James Jukes, Japanner, and family in the 1851 census either.  I have found his son, Richard [Henry] Jukes [b. 1820] and wife Ann in the 1851 census and their son James Jukes as a visitor at a home two doors away.

I have digital images of St. Philip's Church [Birmingham Parish] christening record  for James Jukes and Mary Ann's children Emma, Richard, Caroline, Henry, Mary Ann, James and Sarah.  If you would like copies, contact me at rjukes@gmail.com.

I'm very happy to get possible dates for the deaths of James and Mary Ann from your previous post responses.

I also have digital images of Marriage record for young Richard Jukes' marriage to Ann Arnold at St. Philips in 1838:         "Richard Jukes, minor, Bachelor, Japanner, Residence: Gough Street, Father: James Jukes, Japanner,  marriage December 21, 1838, to Ann Arnold, Minor, Spinster, no profession, Residence: Suffolk Street, Father: Daniel Arnold, Blank Tray Maker.  From digital image of Marriage Record:  “Marriage solemnized at St. Philip’s Church in the Parish of Birmingham in the County of Warwick…"

Any further information on any of James and Mary Ann will be greatly appreciated.  I figure James must have been born around 1800 also.   :)
