DENMARK: Christian Alexander Dahl
« on: Friday 28 October 11 15:23 BST (UK) »
Looking for ideas on tracing an ancestor from Denmark/Prussia, I'm not sure what resources are available (and I'm a bit hampered by only speaking English).

The person I am tracing is Christian Alexander Dahl, who emigrated from Schleswig Holstein to Australia during the gold rush (probably sometime between 1856 and 1864). His naturalization certificate shows him as being from Tønder, Haderslev, Aakenraa-Sondenborg. He was born around 1840 to parents Hans Dahl and Helena Pawson (I'm guessing perhaps an anglicization of Poulsen). He married Ellen Denney in 1864 in Castlemaine, Victoria, and had a number of children.

I am hoping to find information prior to his emigration from Denmark.

thanks, Glenn
