? Kenally
« on: Friday 04 November 11 06:40 GMT (UK) »
I have just got copy of baptism for Margaret Youlie 25th May 1777 in Airlie,  I am not finding a lot about either parents or place.  These are William Youllie and Janet Kinnimond and the place definately looks like Kenally.  Tried the usual searches but come up with nothing.  Any help greatly appreciated.

hi Fiona  :)

Modern maps have a Kinnaniel and Kenny
but Kinalty is the best match i can find in the Airlie area

Kinalty is noted on the 1841 census
also noted as a place on the farm horse tax 1797-1798

I have an older map with the parish boundary, which confirms that Kinalty is in the parish of Airlie.

Kenny and Kinnaniel are both in the parish of Kingoldrum.

It isn't unusual for a 't' to look like an 'l' in older handwriting, and unstressed 'e' and 'i' are commonly interchanged.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
