James and Ellen Kennedy, Limerick
« on: Monday 14 November 11 03:31 GMT (UK) »
Hello
I am trying to trace my grandmother, Catherine Mary Kennedy's family.  Catherine who was a twin was born about 29 May 1880 in Darragh Limerick.  In 1900 Catherine travelled to Townsville Australia on the Duke of Portland and married Patrick Treacy from Freneystown Kilkenny and mover to Western Australia in 1904.  Her twin sister went to the USA name unknown.

Parents James and Ellen Brien Kennedy from Ballypierce Garryduff, Limerick, had 7 children Patrick dob 1867 (married Mary and had two children James and Hanora), Bridget dob 1875, John dob1878, Mary dob 1879, Catherine and twin dob 1880, Johanna dob 1885.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Marilyt,

Are you still looking for information on your relatives? I realize this was posted in 2011, but I might be able to help.

Thanks.

Hi there,

I am not connected to this couple (yet anyway) Haha.. :)

Just wondering if you might have a Nellie ( Ellen) Fitzgerald Quain born about 1810-1815-Limerick- She was married to William Quain (sr) (born abt 1810-1815) .

We were apparently related to the Kennedy family too. I assume it was through the Fitzgerald side but I could be wrong?

I think William and Nellie married about 1829 in Limerick -possibly Croom, Bruff , Manister ??

Can you help me at all ??

Desperate for help,

Jila

Hi
Thanks for your post, and yes I am still looking for my relatives, unfortunately I seem to have hit a 'brick wall' with the Kennedys.  Any info or hints would be appreciated
cheers

Hi Jilla
Sorry, from what I have found, there is no Nellie in the family at that time, but I have little info on the family.  If anything comes up I will forward it onto you.  Good luck

Hi Marilyn,

The James Kennedy you mention from Ballypierce in Limerick is most likely my great grandfather. He married twice.

First wife was Honora Hurley. They had 2 children:
Patrick, born in 1866 (who went on to have two children James (my grandfather) and Nora)
David born in 1869

Second wife was Ellen Leahy. They had 4 children:
Bridget, born approx 1875
John, born 1877
Mary, born 1878
Johanna, born approx 1885

We don't know of any Ellen Brien Kennedy. Or of any Catherine who went to Australia or indeed of any twins in the family.

I hope this is of some help to you.
