Civil registration of births started in 1864 - so there will be no birth certs for Mary or Nicholas.

See : Introduction to Irish Records

Are you sure that marriage record is a cert - or could it be a transcript of a parish record ?

Seems that the marriage cert is a church marriage record from Rootsireland.ie.   Does this mean that there are no first names recorded? Or that names were recorded but not included on the record from rootsireland.ie? How do i get around this?

RC marriages records (I dont think RootsIreland have Church of Ireland records yet..) from this time often only have basic details like date of marriage, names of bride and groom, plus the names of two witnesses.

A civil cert should show more. These look like the relevant Index references you need to order a research civil cert from the GRO :

  Name: Nicholas Mulligan
  Registration district: Dundalk
  Event type: Marriage
  Quarter and year: Apr-Jun 1878
  Volume: 2 / Page: 643

  Name: Mary M'Ginn
  [same index references as Nicholas]

see :
  Ordering Certs from GRO Roscommon
Details included on a Marriage Cert
