You could try checking the actual passenger list, as well as any border crossings. They may give more information.

Here are some links that may help.

This one you have obviously seen:
(just putting it here in case someone else can see something that we've missed)

You could check with the Noval United Church to see if they have any records, or know where to locate them.

Norval, ON L0P 1K0

I checked the Toronto Daily Star Newspaper, to see if there were any listings in Births/Marriages/Deaths, for James Naismith, but could find nothing.

Hi,

That is an interesting thought vbain.  Here is a biography of James Naismith (basketball inventor), with some mention of his family background.  If there is a connection between that James Naismith and the one Grungedav is seeking, there may be some clues here.

The father of basketball inventor James Naismith came to Canada prior to 1858 (he married his Ontario born wife that year) so any connection between that James and the one being sought by Grungedav would be very distant if it exists at all.

Another thing, the James Naismith who invented basketball is buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas (where he died) - not in Ontario.

vbain, can you please shrink that link. It is stretching the screen making posts difficult to read. There is a link to the RootsChat Shrink Link at the bottom of the page.

In 1941 he married Lorraine Banzet in Calgary Alberta. He fathered 3 boys and disapeared in 1949. I am one of the boys.

Wow I thought I had hit a dead end when I got to Canada. My mother in law... And your cousin unfortunately died last year. The family here were not encouraged to keep in contact with James. The family legend is he was supposed to meet his sister in Trafalgar Square on VE day but he never arrived . I assumed he was in the military but could never track him down. I knew his half sister Elizabeth well, and she had always wondered where he was.
So the story in Canada ends in 1949? And he disappears. So if I get relationship s right you have two first cousins once removed on this side of the pond
