« on: Wednesday 07 December 11 17:07 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help. Looking for the inquest of Andrew Ivison died 4th Dec 1868 from injures from an accident on the railway. He was a railway porter  with London east line, but no info regarding said accident on his rail records. Cant find any info in local newspapers, and no coroners reports available. Where now?

Hi and welcome to Rootschat :)

How, precisely, was the cause of death described on the death certificate? Presumably the coroner was the informant?

On what date was the death registered?

Hi Newcom

Have you searched on The London Gazette site?  http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/  I couldn't find anything about Andrew Ivison but got 432 hits when searching just Ivison.  It's a free resource and well worth a look for other members of his family even if it doesn't help with this particular query.

Havent tried that one but spent 2 days searching all the local papers including the evening standard at Colindale. nada but thanks Ill give it a try. He was a very busy lad during his short life,"married" 3 women had 6 children  and managed to get himself killed 2 months after joining the Railway company. Quite a lot to fit into 30 years

Hi,

It might be worth contacting the London Metropolitan Archives to see if they have the Inquest  file.  Survival of Coroners' papers is very hit-or-miss unfortunately.

Hi Tried the LMA Inquest file records, they had the year,  but he wasn`t there either. Im beginning to think this chap never died! though someone must have identified his body. He had only started working as a porter with the railway 2 months earlier and strangely he "married" his 3rd wife on the same day. See what I mean about being a busy fella. Also he knocked 5 years off his age in his railway records, said he was 30 when his real age was 35. Bit of a mystery man!
