Could anybody confirm the parents of Ivan Fiveash born 9 September 1914 New Zealand, died 2 March 1958 New Zealand.
Please help, interested to know if my Grand father had another brother, or if this person was a nephew. ???
Thanks everybody , Sunnylyn

Hi Sunnylyn

I'm guessing you have the listing for Ivan from the familysearch website, where it also shows parents as : Thomas William FIVEASH and Jessie BOYER ?
[As it's a "submitted" record and no source has been quoted, it should of course, be treated with caution. ]

The NZ BDM death index gives Ivan's age at death in 1958, as 42 years (born about 1916) - but that could well be incorrect.

I'm assuming that it is Jessie Thomson FIVEASH  born about 1868 who is thought to have been the mother of Ivan ?  If so, then she would have been about 46 / 47 years old at the time of his birth ?  [That age though doesn't necessarily rule her out of being his birth mother. ]

Somebody may have access to a school record which gives a parent's name (one which actually states "father" or "mother", rather than "guardian" of the child) ?    ;)

Hi again

*  Do you have the death "printouts"  for your g/grandparents (Thomas William  &  Jessie) ?

In the column headed "Living Issue", you'll find the ages of the children who survived them.    (I see they died in the 1930's).   If Ivan was their child, then his age will be listed, and that should equate to the year of birth you have for him.

Incidentally, Ivan FIVEASH first appears on an electoral roll in 1935.
[I have a feeling the voting age was lowered around that time to enable persons slightly younger than 21 years, to vote --  so it may or may not indicate that he was born in 1914.]

1935 - Invergargill Electorate - Supplementary Roll No. 1
FIVEASH - Ivan - 91 Nith Street - occupation, labourer

[No others of same surname, at that address. ]

[His wife, Myra Mary FIVEASH is buried at Anderson's Bay Cemetery, Dunedin ... along with a son.    No sign of Ivan.

http://www.dunedin.govt.nz

  >> click on "Cemetery Search"  :

Interestingly, Ivan makes just that one appearance (1935), on Electoral rolls. ]

Maybe you could also try checking the burial place of Thomas William and Jessie FIVEASH to see if he's with family.   Could be that there's a headstone which gives further info. ??
