Interestingly Griffith Morgans birth cert states his father was a joiner named Morgan, W.  and his marriage cert states his father was Thomas Morgan, a farmer.

Now I wonder why those certs were issued in 1920s? (1921 and 1925).
State pension, army pension?

My avatar shows my grandmother CM Jones as the eldest child with Maggie her sister and Davy bach (her brother David).  They would have all known Uncle Morgan and that is how he got his name on our side of the family.

Huw, have you noted that the image of Griffith Morgan in his RWF uniform is on this site elsewhere in the photos section, both the original black and white and a lovely colourised version by our rootschat friends?

There is some link to Lliwdy, Roewen near Conwy in that-
Catherine Mary Jones later Morgan was born there 17.9.1864,
Her father named as William Jones, slate quarrier born Llanbedr according to census,
Her mother is named as Margaret formerly Thomas on the birth certificate.

I have viewed several newspaper articles on National Library of Wales mentioning William Jones, Lliwdy, Roewen ger Conway as president of the local society yet his wife is Mary Jones and she died aged 49 (another press article) after Catherine Mary was born!  If he is a pillar in community type of fellow I wonder why Mary wasn't her mother and if so was Catherine adopted as the census states she is the daughter of Thomas Jones and his wife Margaret nee Thomas. Very confusing!

The other link is his aunt Anne Jones in census and she died aged 84 Conway.  Just how many Lliwdy's were there in Roewen as I can find only one.

Having reviewed the Gyffin parish register I now find that Catherine Mary Jones had a first husband (1886 Gyffin) named Peter Jones, sailor, son of Peter Jones, also a sailor, of the Gyffin, Conway.  The senior Peter Jones married into the Pierce family in early census.

The trigger is the 1911 census showing that her marriage to Griffith Morgan had so far lasted 20 years yet Thomas 'Morgan' Jones is aged 24.

Thomas Morgan Jones is the son of Peter Jones, his 1887 baptism in Gyffin shows this.  Thomas Jones aged 4 in one census is named the son of Thomas and Margaret Jones (Bull Cottages) but he's actually their grandson!

His widowed mother is employed as a cook in one of the properties in the High St. in 1891 near where Bull Cottages stands next to Plas Mawr.

Now to find the death of Peter Jones in his 20's between 1886-1891?
