John Kelly 1861 pls - COMPLETED with thanks
« on: Thursday 22 December 11 19:50 GMT (UK) »
Could anyone please see if they can find a John Kelly in Hull on the 1861 census.

The little bit of information I have, is as follows:

From the 1871 census, he was born in Scotland around 1838. The year of his birth is supplemented by his death certificate stating that he died in Hull prison in December 1871, aged 33.
On the 1871 census, he is living with his mother Catherine Taylor, and his three daughters in Trippett Street, Hull.

He marries Mary Jane Oliver in 1861, but I am not sure if this was before or after the census. Mary Jane was born c.1845 in Hull. Is there any hance that she can be found in the 1861 census also?

I'd like to see if the 1861 census shows his birth place in Scotland, or if he is with his parents, either of their birth places.

Regards,
Nick.

Thanks to you both,

Not the perfect answers as neither are with their parents.

New Year brings a visit to the register office to get the marriage certificate.

Can I be bold and ask if either show on the 1851 census for Hull. John may not be there as I cannot be sure when he comes to Hull but as far as I know Mary was born in Hull.
John may be the son of another John (a boilermaker) & catherine. Cati: does the 1861 show John's birthplace?

regards

Hi Nick

If you can visit the archives in Beverley, you will be able to see (on a fiche) the marriage certificate, it'll save you the £9 or however much a cert costs now.
