HOLDER to USA 1871-1885
« on: Friday 06 January 12 12:53 GMT (UK) »
I have an Adelaide Holder b. New York USA 1885.  She is back in the UK by the 1891 census, living with her grandmother, also Adelaide Holder in Islington.

By my reckoning her father must either be Henry Holder b. 1855 Wakefield, Yorkshire or his brother Frank, b. 1861 Clerkenwell, Middlesex.

I'd love to know some more information about who travelled when.

Cheers,
Alison  :)

That Adelaide married either a Charles William Curley or Thomas Johnston.  I can't find an Adelaide married to either in the 1911 census.

I'm wondering if she's gone back to the US.  There is an Adelaide Holder, US Citizen, right age, travelling to New York in Oct 1911, but that would mean she should be in the 1911 census and I haven't been able to find her there.

An Adelaide Curley born 1887 (bit out) left Liverpool 1913 for USA Philadelphia.  However - there is an Adelaide Curley aged 23 living in Newcastle on the 1911 free index.  I used the Genes Reunited 1911 index and it shows her b Newcastle

She may instead be the Adelaide S. Holder who married Frederick G V Osborne in 1910 in Croydon.
Her husband passed away:

This gives her middle name as "Stuart"  but there appears to be a London baptism for an Adelaide Steward Holder, a daughter of Henry.

Thank you all very much.  Sorry I haven't replied sooner; I've been away for a couple of days.

You certainly seem to have found her.  Henry was a printer in the 1871 census, and there were quite a few printer compositors in the family.

Cheers,
Alison  ;D
