NIXON - ANDERSON
« on: Sunday 15 January 12 20:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,  I'm looking for information on a George Nixon b. 1861 who married a Mary Anderson b. 1860 in Co. Cavan.  Who were their parents? Did they have any brothers and sisters?  Exact DOB?
Death dates etc.  All I have is the 1901 & 1911 census for them with their family of Gertrude (Lancashire, England 1881), Elizabeth (Co. Leitrim 1884), George (co. Tyrone 1886)(my Great Grandfather), Matthew (Co. Tyrone 1888), John(Co. Tyrone 1890), James (Londonderry 1892), Cecil (Londonderry 1897) and Kathleen (Co. Donegal 13/10/1899)(the only one i've got an exact DOB for).
Any more information would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The marriage certificate (if married in Ireland) should list fathers' names and occupations as well as residences of bride and groom at time of marriage. If over 21 will likely be recorded merely as 'full age.'

To find mothers' names, dates of birth (or baptism) and siblings you'll probably have to see if any church records survive.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I can’t see a marriage in Cavan that fits the dates you have given, between George Nixon and Mary Anderson. However there is a marriage between George Nixon and Mary Ann Pratt. Could the surname you have be wrong? The marriage was registered in Cavan town Oct – Dec 1878 Vol 3 page 75.

Possible births of the children:

Elizabeth Nixon Manorhamilton, Leitrim Apr – Jun 1883 Vol 2, page 218
George Nixon Castlederg, Tyrone Apr – Jun 1885 Vol 2,page 21
Matthew Robert Nixon Castlederg Jul – Sept 1887 Vol 2, page 19
John Buchanan Nixon Londonderry Jan – Mar 1890 Vol 2, page 177
James Nixon Londonderry Jan – Mar 1892 Vol 2, page 196
Cecil Frances Nixon Londonderry Jan – Mar 1897 Volume 2, page 194

(If you got one or more of the birth certs, it will have the mothers name and that should resolve any confusion over her previous name).

Thanks for that Elwyn.  I thought the same as you until i saw the occupation.  In the 1901 census George Nixon was a Railway Station Master and i did find the birth of his youngest daughter Kathleen in Fohan, Donegal, where he was listed as station master and mother was listed as Mary Anderson.
