Location of Pembrook Terrace, Hinckley, leics
« on: Thursday 26 January 12 22:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to locate Pembrook Terrace, Hinckley 1901.  I think that my great grandma lived there.  She also lived at Hunters Row, Hinckley, which I have located.  Her name was sarah ellen clarke.

It doesn't seem to exist any more, but, if you can give the reference for where you found her on the 1901 census, some of the clever RootsChat people may be able to find nearby streets from then which may still exist today and then be able to find it on an old map somewhere.

Hi
Thanks for your reply.
I found her in the 1901 Census for Hinckley.
The civil parish was Hinckley and the ecclesiatical parish was Holy Trinity.
RG13/2962
and they lived at number 7.

Thanks again

Greeting’s….Folks.

Using Old Maps / Enumerators route on the Census night and modern maps ……….

My educated guess is that Pembroke Terrace
stood on the East side of Trinity Lane ( Odd No’s )

Between the Coventry Road / Trinity Lane junction
and to the north. ……..
Trinity Vicarage Road / Trinity Lane junction.

May be Pembroke Terrace was opposite this junction
I can see a Cul de sac without a name on the old maps 1898.……….

That’s as close as I can make out. ……… :-\

Full Ref No’. RG 13. / 2962. / 94. / Page. 15.

MIKE. …..

Hello
I have just read the deeds to our house that we have recently purchased. We live in Pembroke terrace (as it was known then), now known as trinity lane, Hinckley. 10 houses were build by mr grifiths around 1919. More houses were added much later on. Numbers of Pembroke terrace are 78-96.

Here's your Pembroke Terrace, built 1889(?) : https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.5418615,-1.3752586,3a,36.3y,291.81h,100.89t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sDUxGW0C0mYS9ocPgI_MBQw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1 on streetview. These "Terrace" or "Row" names were often the names of the buildings rather than the street.

N.B. If you go to the National Library of Scotland's website, you can look at old maps of England. Sometimes the blocks of houses are named on the old maps and street names are often different or they sometimes have no road name at all.
