Completed Photographs need
« on: Wednesday 28 March 12 21:13 BST (UK) »
Does anyone out here in Lunenburg Nova Scotia have any
photographs of the Porter family.  Bishop Porter 1833 Clara 1848
children : Mabel Clifford  1880  Gladys and William?
Also a wedding photo of Frederick George Poole that married Mabel Porter
in 1912 in Lunenburg.....Any help in locating these photos would be greatly
appreciated...Marie. Very important to me as  Mr Poole was my grandfather.

You have a number of threads looking for information that could be available at libraries and local genealogy groups. Your best bet when looking for some of the info you are seeking is to contact the local library. Also most communities have local genealogy groups or museums that could contain info that you are seeking.

South Shore Public Libraries
www.southshorelibraries.ca

Lunenburg County Nova Scotia Gen Web Project
www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~canns/lunenburg/index.html

Also when looking for information on families, keep your requests to one thread as much as possible. From my experience starting new threads will not get you more information and sometimes frustrates those who are searching for info as they can't keep track of what has already been found.

I would contact the above sites to see if they may be able to help.

I would think that the chances of someone on rootschat randomly having photographs of your family in their attic would be practically zero.  :-\ Especially for the earlier dates when photographs were pretty rare ....

Have you tried contacting living family to see if they have any photos of your common ancestors?

Have you tried searching local newspapers in case they were mentioned and maybe a photo included?

pictures in the time frame you are looking for will be few and far between, unless the family was fairly well off.

Have you been in contact with living family members. If you have any names, you may find them using the online directory at
www.canada411.ca

Hi Thanks valeriec. I know the family was well off..Mr. Porter was a druggist.
But your right maybe they did not take many pictures of each other in the early years.

As suggested, you will be better off contacting the younger relatives personally, as it's still a very long shot as to whether or not they may come across your posting here.

I doubt that they would have taken photographs of eachother in those early days as cameras would have been rare if non existent for the public to purchase. They may have sat for formal photgraphs at a professional photographer. Once again, you may find something in newspapers of the time.

Thanks for your reply. Will try the archives in Nova Scotia. Maybe there will also be some photos in the
newspaper in that era...
Cheers:)  Marie
