Hi Angie.
I'll have to enlist your help more often :-}

I have the '51 census for Emma and Henrietta. What I had overlooked was that Aunt Henrietta was b. Clifton, Bristol.
I am now wondering if she was a sibling of John Gouldsmith.
There is also '51 census for Ann Gouldsmith in Southampton with the other offspring.
HO107/1669/ 126 p 47.

And a nearly illegible '41 census in Clifton Bristol where Gouldsmith is transcribed as Gouldswett.
HO107/ 377/ 3/ 13 p: 21

JG is not present on either of these. He was apparently a shipwright and so could conceivably been at
sea on the census days - assuming that shipwrights could/would get involved in 'sea trials'.

Cheers, Alan

Crossed in the post :-}

The  full Ancestry citation is:

Text:    254 11 Oct 1824 John Gouldsmith & Ann Elizabeth West botp Banns
Book:    Burialls 1604. (Burial)
Collection:    Gloucestershire: Bristol - Register of Marriages, 1800-1837

[sorry, I forgot to include the date in my initial post].

Yes, they are an interesting family :-}
JG is my maternal 3xG grandfather. Some of the later history is quite interesting.

Cheers, Alan

On the Ancestry UK site I have found a marriage in the Gloucestershire Extracted Parish Records collection,
specifically: Gloucestershire: Bristol - Register of Marriages, 1800-1837.
I won't quote directly as I'm uncertain about copyright - perhaps someone can enlighten me.

The text states 'John Gouldsmith & Ann Elizabeth West  botp Banns'.
I understand botp to mean both of this parish. But which parish?

From Bath & Avon FHS transcriptions

John GOULDSMITH
Anne Elizabeth WEST
m 11 Oct 1824 at St Mary le Port, both of the parish

Hi Anne.
That's brilliant, thanks very much.
Are these transcriptions available online?
On Hugh Wallis' site, the only batch for St Mary le port appears to end in 1654, and it's a C batch, which
I take to be christenings rather than marriages.
Cheers, Alan

No, I have the CDs produced by the Bristol & Avon FHS (search for them) and (as I have) if you have a lot of ancestors from the area they have proved very helpful

Hi Anne.
I guessed that was probably the case. Just have to decide how many parishes I need :-}

Yes, thanks to you both.
I've ordered the Bristol Marriage CDs from the BAFHS.
I'll pass the time while waiting for them by chasing up some other branches in Madras and Cambs. :-}

Have fun while you are waiting.

Out of interest I looked for the entry that you had found on Ancestry, and it's useless if the Church isn't mentioned............where I wonder did they get the information from? The IGI?
