Minffordd Cemetery, Penrhyndeudraeth
« on: Friday 20 April 12 12:48 BST (UK) »
One of my great uncles, the Reverend John Richard Jones was a Congregationalist Minister in Porthmadog. He died at 5 Roche Terrace in the town on the 30 November 1943 and is buried in Minffordd Cemetery.
I would be very much obliged if anyone who has access to the GFHS publication M352 Llanfihangel y Traethau, Minffordd (Part 2), Penrhyndeudraeth, could let me have details of the transcription of his gravestone.

Diolch.

Hi
Having a problem posting - trying again.
Caernarfon and Dolgellau Archives only have the MI fiches, not the booklets. Merioneth ones only available at Dolgellau. They have ordered M352 (Minffordd) pt. 2 some time ago but have not yet received it; they're looking into the matter.
Called at the Cemetery on Saturday; had a look in one section covered by pt. 2 - didn't see grave of Rev JRJ in that section.

Thank you very much indeed for going to all that trouble, I appreciate it and I'm sorry that your journey was fruitless. It would be interesting to know what is on the gravestone as I learnt from the 1911 Census that he was married, something which had not been passed down in the family stories.
I have numerous booklets for cemeteries in Anglesey but I don't have any other relatives in south Caernarfonshire/Meirioneth.

Diolch yn fawr.

Hi
Had confirmation from Dolgellau Archives that pt. 2 has been available since last year and that they are now reordering.

Hi
Inscription reads as follows:
Y Parch J R Jones A.T.S./Porthmadog/Gweinidog da i Iesu Grist/ Bu farw Tachwedd 30 1943.
(Rev.        "                           "        / A good minister for Jesus Christ/ Died November 30 1943.

'Boncyfelin' has received info thro' contact name supplied by 'Nestagj', that JRJ's wife, Margaret Anne Jones, died 1960, is buried in the same grave. It would appear that there was no close family to arrange additional inscription on the gravestone.
Dolgellau Archives now have fiche of Minffordd MIs, M352 pt.2.
