Solomon O'Boyle and Judge Family from Crossmolina
« on: Monday 23 April 12 12:46 BST (UK) »
My Solomon O,Boyle born about 1810 and died in 1886 married a Mary Judge from Crossmolina. Her parents owned a successful knitting mill on the river there! Allegedly her mom was adopted from a family named Guthrie and they were Presbyterian ministers. Need help on either the O'Boyle line or more importantly this Judge line. Their children later migrated to Scotland, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Massachusetts USA. At least one child Edward stayed on the farm and married a Murphy. The best clue for this line is the use of the name Solomon. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Bob

Hello,

searching for this family, I see that there are quite a few mentions of them elsewhere on the net and a couple of references on Rootschat.

What information do you already have and what are you looking for please?

regards
heywood

Heywood, thanks for the reply. I am always looking for a huge break on Solomon. His name has opened a ton of doors. Would like to know more about Guthries as potential family that adopted out a daughter who married a Judge and eventually had Mary Judge. Also would love more on the Judges who owned and ran the mill in Crossmolina.

My second great-grandfather Anthony Judge (circa 1826-1903) emmigrated from Crossmolina to South Hadley MA in 1861.  However, my research has provided no indication of the family owning anyh kind of mill in Crossmolina.

There are historical mentions of tuck mills in the vicinity which could potentially tie in with the "knitting" reference, however there is also an anecdotal reference to a Mr Judge owning "a small corn grinding mill on the Fotish River" here:

Hi,

A new site has been launched recently to help people who ancestors came from
the Blacksod Area in the West of Ireland.

Site address is  www.blacksodbayemigration.ie   I had a look at it and there was one
family with the surname "Judge"

see

http://www.blacksodbayemigration.ie/search/?q=judge

If you are looking for any other surnames just go into the site and enter surname in
search at top right hand corner.

Good luck with your search

Mary
