« on: Thursday 19 May 05 15:59 BST (UK) »
Still looking for leads on my great grandfather Richard Laycock's ancestors. He was born around 1836/1837 at Warlaby, Ainderby Steeple and Christened in St Helens Church.I've now found he had a sister MARIA born 1827,also at Ainderby Steeple,North Yorkshire, their mother was ALICE LAYCOCK...no mention of his,  nor Marias, father.Does anyone  have Maria in their family tree please? He married Ann ? from Bolton le Swale,North Yorkshire , probably around 1861.
Thankyou , Kattysoo

I assume you have them in 1871.  Let me know if not.

Thank you Andrea,I didn't have that information although yes I do have the family on the 1871 census.
Now I'm trying to find out who Richard  married,it must have been after the 1861 census, they had their first child,Thomas, in 1861, so it looks like they married  between those 2 dates.
He married Ann  who came from Ellerton, Bolton on Swale,North Yorkshire born 1839. I can't find their marriage so am stuck on her maiden name.Any ideas how I can find out ? I'm very grateful for any help, thanks again, Ruth

There is a very good email group for the Upper Dales  www.bishopdale.demon.co.uk/   They are very knowledgeable and may well be able to help you as they have lots of parish records etc.   Otherwise it means a search for the marriage on www.1837online.com and hope that you find the right Richard Laycock.  Try after the birth od the child too.  Of course you could always get the birth certificate for Thomas which will give Ann's maiden name.

Hello again Andrea.I'll have a look at the bishopdale site.Yes it would be so much easier if I could just send for certificates but I am very poor financially so am unable to do it that way.Thank you for all your help and advice.Ruth
