I did a search on the name Bairstow and saw an old post that mentioned a Rootschat member, Marmaduke 123 having Bairstow ancestors in Ovenden.
I'd be interested in seeing this tree, if that's at all possible. My ggg grandfather, Thomas Hudson Oldfield married Mary Bairstow (born 1813) in or around 1834. Old family knowledge says that Mary's father was a mill owner in Ovenden. I've also seen an entry in the London Gazette which links my Thomas Hudson Oldfield to Bairstow Brothers machinery manufacturers in Ovenden. The entry is as follows:
NOTICE is hereby given, that the Partnership heretofore subsisting between the undersigned, Thomas Bairstow, John Bairstow, Henry Peel, and Thomas Hudson Oldfield, in the trade or business of Machine Makers, carried on at Forest Mill, in Ovenden, in the parish of Halifax, and county of York, under the style or firm of Bairstow, Brothers, and Co., was this day dissolved by mutual consent, as to the said John Bairstow, and in future the business will be carried on by the said Thomas Bairstow, Henry Peel, and Thomas Hudson Oldfield on their separate account, who will pay and receive all debts owing- from and to the said partnership, in the regular course of business.—Witness our hands this 17th day of September, 1864.
Thomas Bairstow. Henry Peel, John Bairstow. Thomas Hudson Oldfield.
Are these anybody else's Bairstows? I've found lots of likely looking people in Halifax at around the right time but can't pin my Mary Bairstow conclusively to any of the families.
Alternatively, any other snippets linking this Mary to a branch of the Bairstow clan would be much appreciated. Mary Oldfield (nee Bairstow) can be seen on the 1851 census: HO107 Piece: 2298 Folio: 764 Page: 4 and on later ones. Her siblings (again from old family knowledge) were John, Sarah, William, Elizabeth, Janie (died aged 2), Harriet, Mary Jane, Hannah and Emma.
Thanks for reading and for any help.
Mike
