I also have found a death for a Thomas Cameron @ Gore 1910 Occp MinerThere is also a donald Cameron buried with him??

That Thomas Cameron has a probate file at Dunedin Archives - it would be worth having a look at, even just to rule him out, but if it is the right person then it may provide a few answers:

I have found a likely marriage for Donald CAMERON:

1901/3894   Mary Christina Keating   Donald Cameron  (actual date 17 Aug 1901)

The parents of this Donald are listed as Mary & Thomas and the marriage was registered in Alexandra.

Mary's parents are Thomas & Elizabeth Keating (nee Gibson)

As best I can tell it looks like Mary Cameron's maiden name is Campbell.

There is also this thread relating to this couple:
http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/NEW-ZEALAND/2008-03/1206572403

Not sure if the poster's email is still valid but it might be worth a try.

Just a little more, then I will have to drag myself away from the computer!   ;D

I have found the burial at Wairio mentioned in the thread linked above:

CAMERON, Donald Henry
Maiden Name
Also Known as
Occupation   Miner
Address   Ohai
Armed Service
Date of Death   1949-10-27
Age   72 years
Cemetery   Wairio
Location of Grave   42.00 Block V

CAMERON, Mary Christina
Maiden Name   KEATING
Also Known as
Occupation
Address   Ohai
Armed Service
Date of Death   1939-10-11
Age   60 years
Cemetery   Wairio
Location of Grave   42.00 Block V

There is a probate file for Donald at Dunedin archives:
http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewFullItem.do?code=22084283

Interestingly, the probate didn't go through the courts until 1952, 3 years after his death.  I wonder what the hold up was?

Edit to add:
It looks like they had at least 3 children -
1901/13453   Cameron   Thomas Oliver   /Mary Christina   /Donald
1908/11361   Cameron   Eva May   /Mary Christina   /Donald
1903/1066   Cameron   Elizabeth Mary   /Mary Christina   /Donald

I can't see a marriage for Thomas Oliver CAMERON, unless it was after 1956.

This is his death registration:
1973/33958   Cameron   Thomas Oliver   30 August 1901

His probate file is at Archives in Chch:
http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewFullItem.do?code=8761247

I can't see a marriage for Elizabeth, but neither can I find a death that matches in NZ.

It looks like Eva May was married twice -
1927/2582   Eva Macy Cameron to Glover Gray  (listed as Eva Mary on the NZSG marriage CD) (folio 02506 if you prefer the old refs)

And then Eva May CAMERON (aka GRAY) to Daniel Robertson ANDERSON in 1940 (folio 15954)

This is Eva's death registration:
1972/40286   Anderson   Eva May   9 April 1908

Eva & Glover divorced, the file is at Dunedin archives:
http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewFullItem.do?code=10627260

That's me for the moment, hope you are able to find some more info from all of this.  Best wishes, GH.

Hi GH,

Many many thanks for all that information it is really good to finally have a maiden name for mary.

May Iask how you got the marriage information with parents names attached.???

I had looked at possible marriages but was not counting on middle names being used.

You have been a tremendous help.

Margaret.

I'm looking for children of Thomas and Mary Cameron nee Campbell, who married before they arrived in New Zealand. Their one child definitely known to me was Jessie (b circa 1867). Looking in BMDS the only other recorded births for a Thomas/Mary Cameron are Hugh (b 1865) and James (b 1866). Does this sound like they'd be the same people? The Camerons were known to have been around the Palmerston/Waikouiti area at some point. Jessie worked at Seacliff as a nurse prior to marriage.

Hi Darian
Could possibly be the same family  do know they came from australia. You can see by previous postings how difficult it has been to trace them.
My main interest was in christina who was my cousins g grandmother.
Regards
Margaret
