Hi,
My gran's maiden name is Parker on the marriage certificate. She was adopted by Emily and William Parker in Hawkhurst Kent.According to the 1911 census she was born in Ludgershall Wiltshire. I was checking her children's births and found 2 entries different both were entered as Blake, one actually crossed out from Blake and Parker put in. So from that I then had her original surname....maybe.I now have a photo of her and her mother and that had Lilian wrote on it. My gran's first daughter was called Lilian so I am also assuming the mother's name is correct. The Lilian in the photo is wearing a wedding ring so I thought Blake would be her married name. But still no trace. And unfortunately all Dorothys that I have found in that area are traceable. The birth year could be out by a bit. The information I have is my gran travelled from Ludgershall to Hawkhurst in a coach and she was about 5 years old. I can find no connection with the Parkers to Ludgershall nor to any Blakes. It seems odd to send a child that far without any family connections for adoption. I have tried for years to do this and am now on the verge of letting it go. I really have no idea if Dorothy was her birth name or her adopted name though I would think to change it at 5 years old would be too confusing for her. I also do not know if her birthdate is correct. This is all the information I have to go on which is so frustrating for her elderly children who now want to know.
I really do appreciate the help that has been given on this subject.
Many Thanks
Sue
