Matthew was born in 1827 Dalton and died 25/8/1850 aged 23 in Lochmaben. he had a child Martha but I have not been able to find out who his wife was. Hopefully he was buried in Lochmaben. Can anyone look up the MIs for Lochmaben and hopefully reveal who his wife was. Stoop.

Hi Stoop

There is this marriage showing as a possibility https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XTG3-NNT

Have you found Martha in future censuses?

There is no match for Martha in 1851 or 1861 - assuming she was b Dumfries 1847-1851

There is a Martha Kerr b Dalton 1850 but parents were James & Grace

Where did you get the info from that Matthew had a daughter Martha before he died

I wish I could tell you all more. My main interest is determining who Mathew married, he obviously married young and died soon after maybe the info regarding having a daughter is incorrect. Thanks folks stoop

What makes you think that Matthew married before his age so young?

I can only see that marriage to Helen Wells, linked above. Two children show for them (stopping at 1850  ::))

The Lochmaben reference to their place of birth is maybe promising?

Would help to find this family in 1851....

OK, liking this family more now, Stoop. From 1851:

Helen Kerr 25, Pauper (formerly A House Servant)
Jannet Kerr 4
Robert Kerr 1

Address: East Street, Lochmaben

Freecen or Dumgal would hopefully let you confirm marital status for Helen?

Somebody else researching the family a few years ago here on RC. Helen did show as a widow in 1851 - www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?action=printpage;topic=389980.0

Lots of info on there....
