Can anyone tell me what the letters around the date mean.
They don't occur anywhere else on the page.
His mother was buried 5 days later and he himself 2 months later.

Sorry, but "letters around the date"?

It's possible my eyes are deceiving me (it has been known ), but all I can see is "1837. Ap^r 3^d", with a dot below the superscripted r and d, and a smudge above the 3. Can you clarify what you're referring to?

mgm I don't think your eyes are decieving you,it now looks perfectly obvious , but I thought the letters were possibly n
