The other thing to remember about Marnoch is that they had a "minorities church" that was attended by a small number of people from that parish (ref Stat., Account of Scotland)  It is located in the old burial ground itself but is boarded up these days.  It is always possible that your relative attended that church and was or is in their records.  I know from experience that they sometimes revert to the main stream church and have their children recorded in a batch which shows up clearly in the OPR.

Sorry, if this seems longwinded but it is another avenue to consider,  nw_whiskers

Well done!  At around 1680 you must be getting near the limit on the OPR but a possible grave stone would be of help to you.  I have been in the Marnoch Graveyard several times but NOT in the Grange one but must correct for that soon.

Witness John Webster and John Davidson - it was fashionable to have the 1st names of the witnesses match the child's name.  Any place names with the witnesses or female witnesses for that matter?  Small clues but sometimes helpful in forming a picture!

Keep working on it,  nw_whiskers.
