Thank you for the input, had put it on the back burner late '14 after being diagnosed with non Hodgens lymphoma.  on the mend so I really need to get back into the history.   Need to pull out my folder re Griffiths family to refresh my memory.
Much appreciated just the same.

Pleased you're on the mend.

Did you see the post before mine. There is someone posting re: one of the people you have mentioned?

I know this post is years old, but as it's been resurrected and online resources have so improved I thought I'd have a squizz at Melbourne General online.

John William Griffith   1-12-1902 aged 70: St Kilda Wesleyan compartment B Grave 0371
William John Griffiths  6-5-1886 aged 29: same as above
Jane Griffiths 1906 aged 69: same as above *newspaper says JANET wife of William

There is one Mary in the Wesleyan section:

Mary Ann Griffiths 2-5-1898 aged 50: St Kilda compartment D Grave 189
From BDM: parents Samuel Brown and mother Marion McGuinnen

Mark Griffiths 1907 aged 75: as above

Jamjar

P.S. Greetings, Douglas.

I don't think the John buried here is linking to the family being sought
.

Jamjar - Sadly Melbourne General Cemetery burial records are not online.

From SMCT website which manages Melbourne Cemetery.
The Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust’s Deceased Search Facility allows you to search the records of Springvale Botanical Cemetery, Bunurong Memorial Park and St Kilda Cemetery.
Works are currently underway to grant public access to our records of Brighton General Cemetery, Cheltenham Memorial Park, Cheltenham Pioneer Cemetery, Dandenong Community Cemetery and Melbourne General Cemetery.

I have a resource for MI's at MGC and neither John nor Mary GRIFFITHS' names are on the index.

Abygail - Sorry to read you haven't been well.  When you are feeling better perhaps you could contact the Melbourne General Cemetery for further information about burial locations. I posted their email address on the thread earlier.  They usually respond within a day or so of your enquiry and sometimes on the same day :).

Perhaps you could ask about his wife's burial location also the death notice and death reg have different ages....may also be transcription errors.

The Argus 13 Feb 1894
GRIFFITHS On the 16th inst., at her residence, 272 Barclay Street, St Kilda, Mary, the dearly beloved wife of John Griffiths, late of H.M.C., aged 56.
Deeply regretted.

Death with possibly her father's surname mistrancribed.

GRIFFITHS Mary
Father John GARNER  Mother Mary UNKNOWN
At St Kilda  58 years  Reg#3987  1894

Vic BDM's have a much improved database and no fee to view results.

Hi

I believe that Louisa Jane Hay Marriner was my great grandfather's sister.

Sorry about that, Cando, I had thought it was Melbourne General as the site has a symbol with the words written next to it in the top left corner. Rather misleading, isn't it?

I quoted from the Deceased Search page which states MGC are not online....we've been waiting patiently for years for MGC records and other cemeteries eg Brighton to come online.  They keep telling us they will....but I often wonder when. ::) ::)

Hi, I'm also pursuing this connection with J Griffiths and M Games so wondering if there has been any progress since the last posts?
