Hi Bethan

Not quite sure what you are asking!!

Do you want a lookup in the census returns, or in the births / baptisms of the parish register; if so, which town or village.

Can you give a bit more advice as to what you require and many of our members will be happy to help you.

Hi Bethan

Trying to work backwards, I have just looked on the 1871 census for your ancestor with the following results:

John Howell produced 23 matches connected with Pembrokeshire and
John Howells produced 35 matches
but non of the above matched up with the criteria that you gave.

Can you give the 1881 entry, it may hold a clue as to where to look next.

Hello Chris,                                                                          John Howells was living in Treorchy in the Rhondda in 1881, his occupation was Engine Drive Colliery and he was 32 years of age ,his wife Ann was31 and was born in Merthyr,They had 4 children at that time ,Elizabeth 9, David 7, Benjamin 5 John 2 all born in Treochy,I guess he must have left  Langam or Langham or even Langham before 1871,                                                                        Thanks a lot for your help    Bethan

Thanks a lot for all your effort,I think that I have found him as a baby in the 1851 Glamorgan census. His father was Benjamin Howells, and his mother was Elizabeth and they were born in Steynton and Langrim?in 1799 and1797/I should have informed Rootschat, but I am afraid that what with Christmas and everything I completely forgot. Thanks again for all your trouble.          Bethan
