Margaret Donhue, Micheal Donohue & Margaret Barry
« on: Wednesday 03 October 12 11:56 BST (UK) »
Hello, I am searching for information on Margaret (Donohue) O'Brien, born 1861, who left Kerry on the assisted immigration programme to NZ.  I am looking to know more about her family and ancestors.  Her parents were Michael Donohue and Margaret Barry.
Please help :)

Most Catholic and Church of Ireland parish records for Co. Kerry are available free on www.irishgenealogy.ie

I dont see a promising baptism for Margaret, but there is a good possible match for an older brother - i.e. same full parents names as you mentioned for Margaret.

Baptism of Michael Donoghue - 28 Oct 1860
   Parish of Castlemaine (RC)
Parents : Michael Donoghue & Margaret Barry
Residence : townland of Ballyfinane East

Like most surnames, Donoghue has a number of spelling variations, and can also have an O prefix - i.e. O'Donoghue

My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?

baptisms of a few more siblings, plus a probable baptism for your Margaret... a little earlier than you thought..

Baptism of Timothy Donoghue - 19 Mar 1851

Baptism of Mary Donoghue - 10 Feb 1853

Baptism of Catherine Donoghue - 23 Jan 1855

Baptism of Honora Donoghue - 29 May 1857

Baptism of Margaret Donoghue - 22 Jan 1859

all are in Parish of Castlemaine (RC) most with address of Ballyfinnane townland, except Timothy where the address is Breansugh, possibly referring to the townland of Breanshagh, which is adjacent to Ballyfinnane.

Ballyfinnane townland is about 6km east of the town of Castlemaine, or 20km north-west of Killarney.

Thank you both so much!  I didn't know about the Irish Genealogy site and I have discovered a wealth of information on there about my Kerry ancestors!  If only there was a similar site for my Donegal ancestors :)

I am doing this for my Grandmother, because she wanted to know where her Grandparents cam from, and now I have one piece of the puzzle for her; so thank you both again very much!
