Hello all...

Would it be possible to have a look-up of the passenger list card index held at Wellington Archives please.

The family name is MAHER. The family members are parents Patrick and Mary and children Michael, Catherine and Margaret.

I'm fairly certain a daughter was born in Ireland in 1856 and a son was born in NZ in 1864 so that is an arrival timeframe.

In Jan 1867 they are mentioned in PapersPast for not paying back their migration bond.

Would be nice to know when and how they arrived.

On a similar note, would anyone have referenced the following at Auckland Archives...

Auckland Provincial Government ‘Register of Applications for Passages 1859-1872’

http://archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewFullItem.do?code=22010677

The above PapersPast article mentions Messrs Lusk and Whitaker who were respectively the Provincial Accountant and Provincial Superintendent of Auckland. I think the emigration bonds mentioned in the PapersPast article (or corresponding info) would, if anywhere, be found in the above file.

Has anyone referenced the file and if so is it indexed. If my Wellington request proves to be a bust I may have to look into an Auckland Archives look-up but definitely not if the file is un-indexed.

Thanks very much
Beg

Hi Beg,

I'll have a look at the passenger card index for you.

Could I add a request to yours for a lookup in the Auckland file, please?

The name is George William RILEY born 1844, could have arrived in New Zealand anytime between 1861 and 1872, but most likely closer to the latter date.

Thanks Janette ;D

I refuse to get too excited because every time I find a possible there either isn't enough information or the individual arrived as part of a family group.  ::) As far as I know my George would have arrived alone.

Does that record mention other people? How can I find out more?

Modified to add; Beg, my apologies for hijacking your topic. I'll continue this by PM.

Hello Spades...

Thanks very much for the offer. As ever, it's most appreciated.

And there's no need to apologise for anything...ever :-)

Hi KG...

If you do visit Auckland Archives would you mind having a look at the Provincial Records I linked to. Would appreciate knowing if it's a straightforward look-up or something more involved. Please don't worry if there's no index.

Thanks very much
Beg

Will do, I'm out that way fortnightly as I'm in the digitisation project volunteer pool.  We are up to 1924 in the Hamilton collection.   ;)

Hi KG...

I found a Wanganui probate for this MAHER family on the LDS site last week. I don't know if you were one of the digitisers but it saved me having to make a look-up request (and saved some kind soul a trip to the Archives on my behalf).

Really appreciate your efforts :-)

Thanks
