Menzies Coal Merchants

Hello,
I wonder if anyone can help me. From the very limited information I have on a birth certificate, I am trying to investigate if there were any coal merchants/agents in the West Lothian/Edinburgh area with the name: Menzies. This would have been anytime from the 1890's until the 1920's. I am a bit stuck!

At the moment, I suppose I am trying to locate something like trade directories/post office directories for the area. I have looked at the info available through the national library of Scotland on the net but I am finding it a bit of a jumble and I can't seem to get proper details.

Any advice?

These are the currect Post Office Directories available online via the NLS www.nls.uk/family-history/directories/post-office

The Edinburgh area directories are certainly availabe up to 1912 but not West Lothian.

These directories will be available at main libraries in the West Lothian area and also the main Edinburgh libraries. Not sure how practical this will be depending on your location.

As Carole has mentioned, if you want to include some details from the birth cert you have viewed, people will be better able to try to help 

Have a look also on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk on the Wills & Testament section of SP which now goes up to 1925 online. I searched for surname MENZIES and description COAL and a few entries came up in both Edinburgh and Linlithgowshire (West Lothian).
