Charles King - Clockmaker **COMPLETED**
« on: Thursday 08 November 12 18:23 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I'm trying to find information about a Charles King, a clockmaker born in Warwick C1825.  I know he joined the army in 1846 - signing up in Northampton. On leaving the army he became a prison officer in Birmingham.  His wife's name was Mary, & she was born in Ireland about 1834, & I have traced their children.  However, I'm having difficulty finding any record of their marriage, or of Charles's birth/christening.  The 1841 census gives me a Charles King born 1827 living in Stratford upon Avon with his parents John - a watchmaker - & Sarah, but I have no concrete information telling me this is him.

Any help gratefully appreciated.

His service records should they exist will give next of kin.
If he married in the Army he may be listed under Army marriages.
He may also have received a pension.
Find my past hold these records so it may be worth buying a few credits.
Chelsea pensioners has a Charles King born 1825 B'ham.

Hi,
Could it be Mary King , married, living with her mother Mary Fallon in Birmingham in 1851 with son John born 1849 Ireland?

Record does give ages but they are a little awry but might have been misread.

John King b 1849 is living with his Aunt Elizabeth West in Stratford upon Avon in later censuses.

Hello

Jim - I have his discharge papers, but have not yet traced further service records.  I've ruled out the Chelsea pensioner & the Army marriages database, but hadn't thought of checking for a pension.  Many thanks

Cathy - I think this could be the one.  I'll have to do some more digging around, but it's certainly looking like it could be him.  Many thanks for this.

More avenues to investigate!
