Hi, I am at the National Archives and have looked up what I can find on Ursula. She was born in St Pancras on 28th June 1906, and died in Chatham in December 1980. Her birth was registered as Ivy Marguerite Adams. On the 1911 Census she is a "boarder" aged 4. Her children, with Hideo Shiraishi, were born in 1933, 1935, Barbara 1936 (died as infant), 1938, 1939 (all born Woolwich area), 1944 (born Oxford area), and 1948 b Greenwich. One of her daughters married in Greenwich in 1997. I will attach a copy of probate details of Mr Shirashi who died in 1962. On the 1951-53 electoral registers Hideo (Hadeo) is living alone, so I think he had split up with Ursula by then (but maybe not).  Andrew Wilson

Hi, Thank you for your reply. Most of this information I do have, though do not have Hideo's probate records. You are right Ursula (Ivy Marguerite) and Hideo did split up. A big question at the moment is her parents, especially her mother. I have the birth certificate, so know her mother was Marguerite (maiden name 'Strain') and he was Joseph Henry Adams (born 1897 and known as Henry Adams later). On the 1881 Census he is at 20 George Street living with his family, oldest brother James Ellis Adams. In 1891 still at George Street. Then I can't find him anywhere else, no marriage certificate, no death certificate and I cannot find anything else on Marguerite Strain. No idea where she came from or went to. Nothing.  In a rare letter Ursula says her father died in 1917.

35 Hawley Road was once The Stag's Head pub, and he is down on her birth certificate as licensed victualler. I was thinking of maybe pursuing that angle, but don't know where to begin?

Hello.  Thank you for your message. The copy of the probate information wouldn't transmit, but it says that Regina and June are the executors. I should be able to find out a few more details next Saturday. btw when Urusula was a boarder aged 4 she was living in Forest Gate.   Andrew Wilson

Hi

Yes,  same person there with his wife Lizzie in 1891.
Listed as Edward D Boyce as he also is in 1891/5/9 in Post Office directory.

[Do you think he may have been a little worse for wear when he gave his details?]

Yes, perhaps :). Edward Daniel Boyce died in 1905 aged 45 so the pub may have become available.

How has it been established that Joseph Henry Adams born 1879 as found in 1881, 1891 is the Henry Adams who fathered Ivy?

This death looks like a good match for the former:
