Saffery, Saffrey, Saphery, Saphrey of Kent

Can anyone shed any light on the origins of this name and its variations? I read somewhere it means sea mist but am not sure it is correct. Oddly enough there are a group of people whose surname is Saffery in Hawaii!

I can trace the family back to 16th Century near Canterbury Kent! But cannot find out where it came from

Hi,

I'm descended from a Saffery line in Downham Market, Norfolk.  I also have DNA matches to the Hawaii branch of Saffery's (starting with Edmond Jerry b 1806), but have not been able to tie him into my tree.

My DNA doesn't tie into Hawaii at all.
My Safferys are definitely residents of Kent.
