;) Might just have to start  all over again with the Purtill's!!

                       Facts:

Jane Pertill married Michael Murphy 1860. Pateley Bridge, Yorkshire.  { Jane born abt 1840 }

Jane's father: Simon Portill {Deceased }  Farmer
Michael's father' John Murphy farm labourer.

1861.
Stammergate, Ripon.
Michael & Jane Murphy
P. Porton 25 labourer
Thomas Porton  15   traveller
Mary Porton 50  widow
" all born Ireland "

I beleive the Porton's are in fact Jane Purtill's siblings and mother.

1911 census.
14 Ranson terrace, Haswell moor, Easington.  Durham
Jane Murphy. widow 79   born Clare
Mary Cameron 39 daughter born Leasington, Durham
Joseph Cameron. grandson. 7  born Haswell
Thomas Portal. 50 brother masons labourer  born Ireland.

Any postings on Purtill marriages accept Jane &  Michael's might just be wrong.

Would it be possible to find in Co Clare a Simon & Mary Purtill who had children who would match
Jane Purtill.
P.Porton
Thomas Porton.

Its possible when census was taken in 1861 Purtill was put down as Porton.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
All the best ;)

;) Hi Heywood, iv'e been fine with every thing you  and MarP sent to me some time ago, i decieded
to look for Jane Portill's parents,  joined the Clare Library forum, it seems thier are a lot of
Simon & Mary Purtill's in and around Kilrush and surounding area's.

Not sure how i came up with birth date for Jane Portill of 1832, but marriage certificate states she was 20 yrs old when she married Michael Murphy.

A lot of Purtill's in Clare but that dosn't mean they all came to England i'm sure, the Murphy side as you know is 100% correct.

If!!! Coyle marriage not right then that upsets the apple cart a bit but it all looks so good, Marp was so maticulous in her search.

I do remember when i was sent 1861 census by you or MarP that the Porton's could be a miss spelling and should be Portill.

In the 1911 census Jane is shown as 79, Thomas Portil 50, again thats nothing as we know they got so much wrong in those days.

Just hoping to find Jane Portill Murphy's parents.
Still got all you and MarP sent, writen down and stored away on hardrives, its not going any where.
Thanks for getting in touch Heywood appreciate it ;)

Derek

ps. remember us finding Margaret Murphy McIntosh in little sisters, well id'e had her son J W McIntosh's militia papers for ages, he was killed soon after great war broke out, it didn't occur to me until recently he may have married, well he did and had a child, but still sad ending :'(

I suppose it doesn't really matter if those other marriages in Leeds are not the same family.

The only way to find out is to check  marriage certificates to see if the father is Simon and it would be interesting to know.

The Coyles married in 1857 and Jane married in 1860.

The difficulty is that there are variations of the name :)  I can't see them in 1851.

I wonder why the Coyle marriage is wrong? Is the father not Simon?

;) Iv'e sent off to Leeds for marriage certificate of Bridget Purtill &  James Coyle to see if Bridget's
father is the same as Jane Portill who married Michael Murphy.

Bridget & Coyle marriage 1857 Leeds.

Michael & Jane's marriage 1860 Pateley Bridge.

My problem is if father on marriage certificate for Bridget Purtill & James Coyle same as Jane Purtill
it might not necessarily be same Purtill family, given how many Portill/Purtill and all other spelling of this surname in Leeds at this time, any way fingers crossed.
 ;) All the best.

 ;) Hi all,

Please can some one help me, iv'e just recieved a marriage certificate of a marriage
between:

James Coyle 21 shoemaker { George street Leeds } father John Coyle shoemaker
    married

Bridget Purtle 21 spinster { Templar court templar st Leeds }  father Samuel Purtle  labourer.

I did think that Bridget Purtle was a sister to my maternal gt gt grandmother Jane Purtill who married Michael Murphy 1860 at Pateley Bridge, Yorkshire.
Jane's father on her marriage certificate is named as Simon Purtle, deceased a farmer.

If Jane Purtle & Bridget Purtle arn't sister's wonder if they are cousins, any help to sort this out
would be greatly appreciated.
All the best.
