Hi Merryhow,
I saw both birth certs for the William's I think the wording of the 1st confused them lol. It has present under the name of the child, possibly William just gave his own name, just to confuse us all. Chasing censuses, have the 1861 for William and Ann at Alston Street.  Heaven only knows where his father went, found his mother's death record under her maiden name.
Thanks for your help  :)
Hope you have a lovely Christmas and a good New Year. All the best for 2017!!
Grace

If Ann was born in Tollcross you may find her birth in the records of Tollcross Relief Church.  I found my great-grandfather's birth record there after many years of searching.  The records are not on ScotlandsPeople but are held by Glasgow City Archives at the Mitchell Library.  The reference is CH3/1342.
Smellie from Gartshore to New Monkland;  Sneddon from Polmont to New Monkland;  Lumsden, Bo'ness to Lanarkshire;  Black, McCallum, Wotherspoon at New Monkland;  Fyfe at  Cambuslang;  Currie, Hamilton on Arran; Gilchrist, Brown, Campbell on Islay

Hi,
I swear these replies sneak in without me seeing them lol.
Catherine died on May 8th 1837, it appears on a register of burials, on the Scotlands People site. Catherine Bannerman wife of James Alexander. Apparently they stayed in the Gallowgate and he was a labourer. She died of a fever aged 45.
Thanks again.
