Samuel Hilton Death Certificate
« on: Saturday 04 June 05 09:00 BST (UK) »
I have a copy of the death certificate for a Samuel Hilton killed in the 1st World War which isn't the one I wanted

Cpl 6429 Samuel Hilton of the 1st Battalion The Scottish Rifles aged 37 Born England died 4.11.1917 in France

It doesn't give any more information than that but I will forward it to anyone that wants it for their family records

Hi Willow,

I know you posted this years ago, is there any chance you still have the birth certificate for Samuel Hilton? Any information you could send me regarding him would be great.

Poppy

Hiya Poppy

The only information I have on him is on the death certificate but looking on the Commonwealth War Graves site it states that his brother was a Mr E Hilton of 4 Duke Street Halifax

Looking at the 1881 census we have the following which I must be him

4 Duke Street Halifax

Samuel Hilton 38 head b Halifax wire drawerer
Ruth Ann Hilton 33 wife b Halifax
Samuel Turner Hilton 2 son b Middlesborough, Yorkshire
Edgar Hilton 1 son b Balifore Yorkshire

RG11/4402/69/11

By 1891 he is listed as an orphan inmate at a blue coat school but Edgar is still living with Ruth Ann. Ruth Ann dies in 1899

27.10.1877 St John the Baptist Halifax Samuel Hilton 35 widower wire drawer father Samuel earthenware dealer to Ruth Ann Hargreaves father Thomas wire drawer

Is he related to you?
