Butler family
« on: Tuesday 05 February 13 21:34 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to find out about Austin Butler who married Elizabeth Barnes at South Shields 1877. I can find no trace of them in any census. They had a daughter Rebecca born either 1883 or 1885 who married Andrew Douglas 1904 at South Shields.    The only time I found her in a census is in 1911 after she is married to Andrew.  I am not a relation but am trying to find them for my cousin who is descended from them.
                         regards Cathiemay.

Deaths Mar 1/4 1891
Austin Butler age 57    S. Shields    10a/490

If this is him it still doesn't explain where they are in 1881 and I have been searching for quite awhile

Hi have you looked at the family in South Shields with a Rebecca b 1886 living next door is a Barnes family with the Head James b Langham the same as the widowed Ann E? Butler, she looks to be possibly marrying the lodger in the household in 1891 a Byron possibly?

Hi this has kept me going for a couple of hours, still not certain if 1891 family are the ones, but?

1901 Census
Eliza A Byron 45 Married b Bell Quay, Durham
James Butler 18 b Hebburn
Jane Butler 15 b Hebburn
John Munro 9 Grandson b Hebburn
Residing at 60, Lyon Street, Hebburn
Census Ref RG13/4744/52/39

The James W Butler in 1891 was b c 1883, the Rebecca Jane b c 1886

Marriage Albert Byron to Ann Elizabeth Butler June qtr 1910 South Shields 10a 1341

The Grandchild John Munro looks to be the offspring of the Harriett Barnes aged 11 b Bill Quay in 1881 census and a John Munro who possibly married March qtr 1891 South Shields 10a 971

If the Elizabeth who married Austin Butler in 1877 is the one above, then she could have been a widow?

1871 Census

Henry Barns 39 occ Labourer b Norfolk
Elizabeth 25 b Norfolk
Mary 3 b Bill Quay, Durham
Harriett 1 b Bill Quay, Durham
Residing at Bill Quay, Durham
Census Ref RG10/5049/14/22

Both Mary and Harriett are on the 1881 with the Ann Elizabeth Butler?

Open to any other viewpoint!!

Hi Cathiemay, still not 100% sure if this is "your" Rebecca's family, and we still do not know who Austin Butler was, also what details of Austin are on the marriage certificate to Andrew Douglas?
