John Gillon, Royal Inneskillen Fusileers, 1914 - 17,no trace in Records.
« on: Thursday 21 February 13 16:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,
First time I have used this site so my apologies if I get anything wrong.
We are trying to find the Military Records of John Gillon / Gillan of Eastwood, Glasgow who joined the Royal Inneskillen Fusileers on 7Sep1914 and was discharged on 31Sep1917, minus both his legs. His Reg. No. was 14267 and the one small piece of paper we have has an item, "Action Taken, List 13/373," written on it.
We can find no Military Record of any kind about John, not even a War Pension Record.
We know some records may have been destroyed / damaged during WWII but does anyone have any idea if any records about John may still be available and if so where.
Any help would be very gratefully received.        LN & MO A.

He has a silver war badge entry ...as for pension records it may not have survived

Thank you all so much for your help.
John Gillon was my mums father/ my granddad who died years before I was born, in 1937.
I only knew he joined up 1914 and we thought it was in Glasgow, which was his home town,
but, it looks as if he has gone to the land of his fathers birth to join up!
We have found out so much information about him with especially your help Rex. He came home from Gallipoli minus his legs, married his sweetheart and had 4 daughters, one being my mum. The search continues to find out more. Thanks to you all again. Maureen Anton.

I think he could have enlisted with the Inniskillings without leaving Scotland but perhaps some of the military experts here will know more about this.

Hi

Do you have the names of John's parents? Or siblings. I'm following the Gillan/Gillon for my husband who's a Gillan.
