Pattison's from Grange, Magherafelt, Derry County
« on: Sunday 24 February 13 04:26 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for relatives or information on The Pattison family. Stephenson B, Samuel and David immigrated to the US in the 1920's. There was another brother named William and sisters named Charlotte, Florence and Sarah. There may have been another brother named Thomas and I believe their father's name was also Thomas. They were a family of farmers. Thank you for any help!

Hi,
I have looked for a marriage on Thomas and Sarah with no success. However there is a marriage in 1881 of Thomas PATTERSON to Sarah Parke in Desertmartin Church of Ireland. I wonder if this could be them.

Another member, nessa, has a topic for this family on U.S. board-
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,573765.0.html

Samuel Patterson born 1896 gives father's name as Thomas Patterson. Samuel and brother David (born 1895) went to U.S. 1914 joining brother Thomas (born 1888) there.

Here's the family in 1901-

Going off on a tangent here, hope you don't mind, sorry if anyone does.

I couldn't help but notice this Desertmartin signing of the Ulster Covenant:

http://applications.proni.gov.uk/UlsterCovenant/image.aspx?image=M0017970003

Is there a chance that these guys are the sons of Thomas and Sarah? This brings me back to a previously unresolved question over the minimum age for signing the covenant. I have always assumed it was young men of 17+.  I haven't got definitive answer, please sort me out!  :)

What I would say from my own family tree experience is that the name 'Willie' tends to be used for a boy.

Anyhow,  Kingskerswell, I think you are correct regarding the Thomas Patterson (or variants) / Sarah Parke (or variants) marriage.

Women signed the Declaration not Covenant so 'Willie' would have been male.

Yes, but the 'Willie' Pattison/Patterson/variant from Desertmartin would have been 11 - 12 years old at the time.  Would he have been allowed to sign the Ulster Covenent?
