This is a tiny stone recently uncovered after an old yew tree was cut down, you can see where I had to pull away the stumps and dig one of them out, so the inscription is not on my 1983 list. Which means I'm still finding new inscriptions 30 years on.

Position of the McFarlane & Waugh stone. The line of trees marked with an X was the end of the churchyard until the small extention where the Mitchell/McFarlane plot is situated, was opened.
When I transcribed the stones in 1983 there was a nice pathway just to the left of those trees which has now been grassed-over.

Lodger, a huge thank you to you. You go above and beyond and back again.
Apart from the Dalziel clan I can pretty much say that all of the above records and photos belong to my family.
As usefull as all of this is I have spent the past couple of days putting the pieces together. They add up except for one minor technicality and I'm not sure how to resolve it.
This side of my family consists of Mitchell's and McFarlanes. A McFarlane married a Mitchell and a Mitchell married a McFarlane so they are all related. (Confusion abound for quite some time for me)

James McFarlane married Agnes Mitchell (My Great Great Grandparents)
James's parents are William McFarlane and Jane Kay
Agnes's parents are Thomas Mitchell and Isabella Bryson McFarlane
That's all good, no issue.

William McFarlane married Jane Kay (My Great Great Great Grandparents)
William's parents are George McFarlane and Ann MACHEN/MACHEN
Agnes's parents are George Kay and Agnes Grey

Here in lies my dilema;
James McFarlane married Jane Prentice (My Great Great Great Great Grandparents)
James’s parents are George McFarlane and Ann Meechan

I have James’s Death Certificate, it gives his Mother’s maiden name as MEECHAN
You have thrown in a burial of Joseph McFarlane with parents of George McFarlane and Ann MAUCHLINE
What was Ann maiden name?? Machen/Machen/Meechan/Mauchline. Are they one in the same person or completely different women??
Are James, William and Joseph brothers, because if they are that gives me the Harris’s you have listed as well. There is probably a simple answer to this but my head is about to explode. And as I pointed out before it makes James my 3 x Great Grand Uncle, and my 4 x Great Grandfather.

Need a lie down now
Liz

Hi Liz,
Old parish birth records for James, William & Joseph.

James.   Barony Glasgow, February 1802.
Geo McFarlane and Ann Machen, Calton, had their 6th child born 23rd, bapt 27th named James.
Death records say mothers maiden is Meechan.

William.   Barony Glasgow. August 1810.
George McFarlane & Ann McFarlane, Calton, had their 10th child, born 5th, bapt 19th named William.
Witnesses Peter Weir and John Machen  (another relation?).
Death records say mothers maiden name is McMahon.

Joseph.  Barony Glasgow. September 1804.
George McFarlane, Cotton Spinner, Calton & Ann Machen had their 7th child born the 13th, bapt 23rd named Joseph.
Death records say mothers name is Mauchlin.

I think Ann Machen/Machan/Meechen/Mauchlin/McMahon are the same person.

William's son, George, married James' daughter, Margaret, on 9 Sept 1870.
It says " cousins " on the marriage cert.

The Dalziel clan are from Joseph's daughter, Christina, who married Robert Dalziel on 30 Dec 1864.

Steven.

Thanks for that Steven,

Meechan/Machen/Machan I can see could be the same surname. I have doubts about McMahon and Mauchline though. As requested in my e-mail, if you have those documents could you be so kind as to e-mail them to me ;D ;D I have Jame's death certificate.

I do see how everyone fits in but I need to be sure in my own mind. I don't want to add people just for the sake of it. The photos that Lodger posted and kindly marked show a close proximity of the burial sites, that could be a clue. (That's also probably why Lodger did it ::)) Even to the point that the one that shows the distance of Isabella's stone in relation to the McDonald one, behind Isabella's is one of "Prentice". Isabella McFarlane's mother was Jane Prentice.

I had noticed the marriage of Margaret and George and I wasn't going to persue that because Margaret is the child of Jame's second marriage to Janet Somerville (Sommerville) and Janet is not directly related to me BUT her daughters husband is. Gosh, again, I need a lie down.

Kind regards,
Liz
