Stonehenge Aerodrome
« on: Thursday 04 April 13 12:19 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Does anyone have any photos, maps, or memories of Stonehenge Aerodrome?
My aged aunt lived there in Ag labs quarters 1926-1928.
Her memory says that they lived in converted hangers.
Any information would be very welcome.
Bob.

There's lots of info about it, if you google Stonehenge Aerodrome, if you go to the following link you'll see the aerodrome itself was closed  by about 1921.  Presumably your aunt didn't have anything to do with the aerodrome, but was just living in the ag lab quarters in 1926-28.

Hi, Lizzie
Many thanks for that, I already had a copy.
My aunt lived there after the aerodrome was closed and some buildings were used to house Ag labs.
I was hoping that someone may have had a parent or grandparent who had some personal knowledge of that time. (1926-1928) Photographs would of course be very helpful.
My aunt's parents lived there, but it was unsuitable to give birth there, so her mother went to her parents in Amesbury. After the birth she returned to quarters at Stonehenge.
Once again many thanks.
Regards
Bob.

Hi, Lizzie
My local library managed to borrow-in a book called Wings over Wiltshire.
This covers in great detail all the airfields in the county.
Aged aunt now happy.
Many thanks for your help.

Hello,

I've been trying to find out more about what happened in the vacated Aerodrome buildings after it closed in 1921 - I've included some summary details in this report (http://research.historicengland.org.uk/Report.aspx?i=15239). I would love to hear more about your aunt, Bob, and indeed from anyone else who has info about the use and occupants of the former hangars and accommodation blocks. I can be contacted directly at *

Thank you,

Martyn

Hi Martyn,

We are discouraged from putting our e-mail addresses on the site because of spam etc., so would be best of you removed it or a moderator could do it for you.
Once you have posted 3 times, you can use the personal message system to contact Lochee (Bob)
by clicking on Lochee in the left hand margin, which takes you to the next screen, left hand margin gives you the option to send a pm - click on that and it takes you to the message screen.

Hope this helps.
