Hello  :)

I think that Thomas David on 1851 at Old Road with wife Anne are still on 1861 and 1871 in the same area, although Thomas's occupation has changed.

1851
Thomas David Head age 47 born Llanddarog Farm Labourer
Anne David Wife age 57 born Llanddarog
Betty David Dau age 18 born Llanddarog Shoe Winder
John Evans Nephew age 20 born Llanddarog  Journeyman Smith

RG8 Piece 2465 Folio 557 Page 34

Could be them at 1861 Weig Road
Thomas Davies Head age 55 born Carmarthenshire  Haulier
Ann Davies Wife age 69 born Carmarthenshire
William Evans Lodger age 23  born Carmarthenshire  Smith

RG9 Piece 4100 Folio 40 Page 44

and 1871 at Middle Road
Thomas David Head age 70 born Llanddarog  Labourer in Tinworks
Ann David Wife age 80 born Llanarthney (next Parish to Llanddarog)

RG10 Piece 5449 Folio 29 Page 55

Occupations did change at this time due to the move away from rural to industrial society.

What do you think?
Best Wishes
Morgan

On 1861, Anne David, Widow, age 68, Proprietor of Houses, was born Cadoxton so is a different person to the Anne David in Cwmbwrla on 1851, who was born Carmarthenshire.

Many thanks morganllan, Yes no doubt that is Thomas and Anne. His brother William was classed as Haulier and also Blacksmith. No doubt worked in Tinworks. Brother William stayed in Llanelly.
As ever you have been most helpful and agree Anne David - Proprietor of Houses is someone else.
So easy to be misled with names and ages. Good work spotting born Cadoxton although cannot always rely on Census info. Surname David also changed to Davies at times -most confusing.
Hopefully can do a little more digging on family. Once again many thanks. Syljun

You're welcome Syljun :)

Not sure whether these are connected because of the David/Davies/Dafydd thing, but may be worth checking via death certificates from Swansea register office. Dafydd is Welsh for David (as well as Dewi)

Death of Ann Davies age 83 in 1874 (Sep Q) Swansea vol 11a page 426

Burial at Babell Calvinistic Methodist Church, Cwmbwrla, Swansea, on 14th July 1874 of Ann Dafydd, age 83.

Death of Thomas Davies age 78 in 1878 (Q) Swansea vol 11a page 422

Burial at Babell Calvinistic Methodist Church, Cwmbwrla, Swansea, on 27 March 1878 of Thomas Dafydd, age 78.

If you decide to send for the certificates, email them with as much information as you can so that they can confirm whether it is the right family.

Babell site is very close to the locations of Thomas and Anne in the census, so it's a good possibility. See this thread which has some photographs of the graveyard, which is very dangerous.

Thanks again morganllan, help invaluable. Have looked at photo of Babell Churchyard, what a pity it is in such a mess. Regards, Syljun

It is a shame that so many grave yards are neglected, and can be very dangerous. Visitors could easily twist or break an ankle or leg, or even fall into a hole, or have a monument fall on them.  :o

If you decide to send for the death certificates, remember to specify all known information, and please let us know how you get on.

Best Wishes
